I launched Byjida 3 years ago in my workshop is located in Damascus and we aim to specialise in 3 types of embroidery that go back 300 years. We use silk and cane and metal thread in many different ways. Due to the war, a handful of embroiders are left practicing this type of embroidery, so our aim is to keep this tradition alive while creating new designs that can be handed down within families. We now train young men to embroider and take on new people every year. We hope to create special pieces that are made by real people and have a story behind them, in a time where handmade things are rare.
